Designing Uncorrelated Multiple Antennas with Round Patterns Using Handset Metal Frames

Multiple antennas with low correlations are highly in demand the mobile handsets for higher data rate. At same time, total pattern provided by should be as round possible reliable links. In this paper, analysing characteristic modes of chassis loaded ultra-thin metal frames, a four-antenna system is designed at 2.4 GHz. The gain variations only 3.4 dB and 3.6 on two dominant planes. isolations between above 15 dB, below 0.01, intact ground plane small clearance 2 mm maintained. Afterwards, an eight-port antenna taking advantage exciting different phases. Low 0.07 obtained. fabricated, measured results agreeing well simulated ones.
